Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September 1 - September 30

- Free

Each September, families, organizations and medical professionals across the United States observe September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

In Central New York alone, over 60 children will be newly diagnosed with cancer and hundreds treated at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital while throughout the United States, 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year.

The objective of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – to put a spotlight on the types of cancer that largely affect children, survivorship issues, and to help raise funds to support current and future children and their families fighting pediatric cancer at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

From local buildings going gold, to sports teams ‘golding-out’ and schools hosting Pajamarama events, there are multiple ways for community members to show their support for kids fighting cancer throughout the month.
