Director of Development

Mission, Vision, and Values of Paige’s Butterfly Run

Our mission is to raise funds with integrity to support current and future pediatric cancer patients and their families through the sponsorship of research and programs at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
 

Director of Development Summary

The Director is responsible for design and management of a comprehensive, effective fundraising program with a goal of raising $300,000 – $500,000 annually in support of the Paige’s Butterfly Run’s stated mission. In implementing the program, the Director will work closely with the following constituents:

  • Paige’s Butterfly Run, Inc. Board of Directors
  • Upstate Foundation staff
  • Corporate sponsors
  • Event participants
  • Committee members and other fundraising volunteers
  • Current and prospective donors, including grateful patients

The Director, with the assistance of the Board, Committee members, and volunteers, will manage annual fundraising events in support of the fund-raising goals. These currently include but may not be limited to Paige’s Butterfly Run, Pedaling 4 Paige, Pajamarama, and Clams 4 Cures. The Director will take a lead role in the recruitment of volunteers to support each of these events.

In addition, the Director will develop a range of corporate and individual sponsorship prospects along with programs to maximize event participation. In this role, the Director will also be expected to serve as a resource to board members, committee members, and volunteers who have been assigned personal sponsor/donor/participant solicitation responsibilities. The effective use of both traditional and social media will play a critical role in this task. The Director must have experience in social media strategy and multi-media content creation across various channels.

The Director will also oversee the day-to-day business operations of Paige’s Butterfly Run, Inc. including strategic planning, marketing, and public relations, budgeting/financial planning, office management, and data entry.
 

Education and Experience

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, communications, philanthropy or a related field, familiarity with Donor Perfect fundraising software. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Required: Two (2) years or more of individual principal/planned/major gift fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferably for a not-for-profit and including experience in managing fundraising events
 

Operating Skills

Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills are required. In addition to these general skills, the position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle by (1) initiating contacts with potential donors; (2) developing appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers; (3) moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) making solicitations when appropriate; and (5) maintaining stewardship contacts with donors.

Event management may from time to time require lifting or short-distance movement of items and materials that may weigh up to 50 lbs. Paige’s Butterfly Run is committed to the mitigation of impediments in this regard wherever possible.

Interest in all aspects of pediatric oncology healthcare and a dedication to promoting Paige’s Butterfly Run, Inc.’s strategic initiatives and other giving opportunities through developing excellent working relationships with The Upstate Foundation, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital leadership, medical staff leaders, board members, other volunteers and members of the community.
 

Summary

The successful candidate will bring creativity, entrepreneurial energy, outstanding personal skills and a commitment to professional fundraising ethics. S/he will have the ability to work on many fronts simultaneously, keeping both details and the big picture in mind. S/he will be able to see opportunities and set priorities while building and managing a wide variety of relationships.
 

Compensation

$60,000+ based on experience.
